Decorating A Dorm In Limited Space
Dorms tend to be very tiny spaces including a bed, a desk, a lamp and maybe a closet. It is up to the student moving in how they want to decorate this space to best reflect their style and make it feel more like home. One of the things about dorm spaces is that they are often monitored by the school’s housing authority so there are limited things a person can do to decorate. Housing authority often limits the ability to paint walls, have extra lamps or lighting and to hang curtains. Because there are so many restrictions and limitations on decorating dorm spaces students have to be creative and know how to decorate the space so they can be comfortable and enjoy their dorms. Three of the spaces that can be utilized in a dorm space is the dorm bedding, the floor, and the walls. The dorm bedding can be chosen in colorful and fun patterns and styles to reflect a person’s style, a fun and colorful rug can be added on the floor for an extra layer of coziness and softness, and the walls can be utilized to hang fun posters or cork boards for displaying pictures and memories.
When decorating a dorm wall the things that are put on the wall have to be removable. A different student may be using the dorm the next year so the decoration has to be easy to take down. Some of the different wall decorations that can be used are posters hung with sticky tack or sticky tape, adhesive wall decals that are easily removable, and cork boards that can be hung on the walls as a back drop for a collage of personal pictures. These are all fun ways to add a splash of color and decorative motif to an otherwise plain white dorm wall. The dorm floor is also a notoriously cold and colorless place. Some dorms have boring neutral carpeting while other dorm floors are tiled with cold laminate flooring. A good way to cover up these boring floors is with little area rugs in a 4 x 6 size. A 4 x 6 rug should fit comfortably on the floor in the dorm and they can be found in bright colors and interesting patterns. Dorm bedding is also found in colorful patterns and designs for adding life to the space.
